Position Summary:

As a Backend Engineer at Cashmere, you will be a key contributor in designing, developing, and scaling the backend infrastructure. You’ll work closely with our CTO and engineering team to build high-performance systems, process large volumes of data, and ensure our AI-powered platform remains fast, reliable, and intelligent.

The ideal candidate has a strong backend foundation, is a Python expert, and has experience working with databases, cloud platforms, and in a fast-paced startup environment.

You will:

Design, develop, and maintain backend systems, ensuring high performance and scalability
Write clean, reusable, and well-tested code in Python
Work with MongoDB and explore SQL-based solutions for handling large data sets
Deploy and manage applications in AWS cloud environments
Utilize frameworks and tools such as Pydantic, Scikit-learn, and PyTorch (optional but beneficial)
Optimize data processing pipelines for real-time and batch analytics
Collaborate with the team to design RESTful APIs and microservices
Participate in code reviews and continuously improve development best practices

Must-haves:

5+ years of backend development experience (mid to senior-level candidates welcome).
Strong Python skills and backend generalist experience.
Experience working with MongoDB and familiarity with SQL databases
Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure
Startup experience at a VC-backed company (Series A-B preferred) or a well-known tech company.
Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Graduated from a top university (preferred, but not required) with a degree in Engineering or STEM field.
Comfortable working in-office in Los Angeles.

Bonus skills:

Knowledge of distributed systems and large-scale data processing.
Understanding of security best practices in backend development.
