Senior Computer Vision Engineer for Cattle Care (remote)
At Cattle Care, we use Artificial Intelligence to increase the revenue of dairy farms and decrease GHG emissions, antibiotics, and hormone usage. Our technology not only optimizes farm efficiency but also ensures high standards of animal welfare. We secured $3.6M in funding from serial angel investors, VCs, and domain experts.
Currently, we are working with 119 farms, monitoring 500,000 cows, and achieving an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $3.0M. Our vision is to revolutionize dairy farming with the power of AI, improving the lives of both farmers and cows.
We’re now looking for an experienced Senior Computer Vision Engineer to help scale and optimize our video stream analysis system, processing data from hundreds of farms and thousands of cameras. This is a fully hands-on, high-impact role with complete responsibility for delivering results.
The Role
We are looking for a Computer Vision Specialist to join our team and take on the challenge of developing and optimizing video processing systems to track animal behavior, particularly identifying aggression and ensuring that farming procedures are followed. With the expansion of our farm territory and camera coverage, this role will be critical in solving unique challenges of generalization across different farm environments and minimizing data usage due to connectivity constraints.
As a part of our small, agile team, you will work directly with other experts in the field and have the autonomy to make key technical decisions. You will be involved in the full cycle of model development, deployment, and optimization.
Responsibilities:
System Design & Development: Design and implement the architecture for video processing and action recognition systems across diverse farm environments.
Model Development: Focus on improving object detection algorithms with an emphasis on accuracy, generalization, and speed optimization for detecting aggression and other critical actions.
Scalability & Deployment: Develop systems to support video analytics across 100+ farms, ensuring the ability to process large volumes of video data and deploy models on both edge devices and cloud infrastructure.
Full-Cycle Engineering: You will take the models from research to production, writing production-ready code and deploying it on edge devices (farm servers) as well as in the cloud. This includes selecting hardware and infrastructure setups based on farm-specific conditions.
Optimization & Efficiency: Ensure that the system works efficiently within farm-specific constraints, such as bandwidth limitations and hardware restrictions, to minimize the data sent to the cloud.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including the technical lead and other engineers, to bring new ideas and ensure that models are scalable and adaptable to different farm environments.
Skills and Experience We’re Looking For:
3+ years of experience in computer vision, with hands-on experience in action recognition, particularly aggression detection in video data.
Full-cycle development experience, with a strong background in deploying models in production, from research to deployment.
Strong production-level programming skills in Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV (experience with YOLO is a plus, but other approaches are acceptable if they deliver strong results).
Experience in video processing and object detection—particularly in environments where real-time processing is not critical, but scalability and generalization across different settings are.
Familiarity with edge/cloud infrastructure for model deployment, especially in environments with limited internet connectivity and hardware constraints.
Bonus: Experience with Large Language Models or other advanced research directions.
Ideal Candidate:
You are self-motivated, able to work independently in a small, focused team.
You have a proven track record in solving real-world problems—particularly in environments like startups, where resources are limited, and you need to be resourceful and innovative.
You have experience in action recognition or similar areas, like detecting aggression or violence in video, and can apply this to new environments (like farms).
You’re comfortable with both the research and development sides of the job and can write production-ready code and deploy it at scale.
You're ready to overlap with your colleagues between 12 and 9 PM Istanbul time every day (you may check the time difference via the link).
What’s in it for You?
A fully remote position, with the flexibility to work from anywhere.
Competitive salary with the opportunity for equity — providing you with the potential for long-term wealth and growth as the company scales.
Work on an innovative application of technology in the agricultural sector, specifically in dairy farming, where your work will directly impact farm efficiency, animal welfare, and sustainability.
The chance to call yourself a cowboy or cowgirl, as you work with large-scale dairy operations across the US, monitoring tens of thousands of cows.
